ABOUT ME
Who is Jacob Curtis?
Greetings, I’m happy you’ve decided to get to know me better! So let’s start from the beginning.

Home sweet home
Originally born in Honolulu, Hawaii I made my way through life going to class, participating in sports, and spending most of my time playing computer games like Everquest (notice I didn’t say surfing?). Yes, I’ve been a closet gamer for as long as I can remember…
When the time finally came to choose which college I would attend I didn’t exactly know where I wanted to go, but I knew for certain I did not want to stay in Hawaii — I needed to do more than be content in paradise.
So off to Oregon I went to join my older Brother, Josh, as a Beaver.
During my undergrad at Oregon State University, I studied New Media Communications which focused on digital storytelling through various mediums and I loved it! Imagine creating a video or developing a virtual world for homework!
Learning technologies role in the evolution of how we have communicated, alter moods, build communities, and sell things through-out history, helped me be hyper-aware of the progression and importance the role social media would play in the future.
This was prior to Facebook being released to the general population outside of college students. I’m comfortable with social media because I’ve been using it for business purposes since day one.
Little did I know, my education was preparing me for jobs that weren’t even created yet — and ultimate a career I currently have working in social media.

My future Wife, Marisol, and I Graduating!
Aside from my scholastics I wore many hats and created many stories at OSU:
- I joined a Fraternity,Chi Phi, triple it’s membership and avoid being shut down.
- I created comics for the student-ran Barometer newspaper.
- Worked at the on-campus Bowling Alley ,The MU Basement, as well as the Student TV station, KBVR.
- Used video and social media marketing to fund a $42M capital campus construction project that won approval in a vote of the OSU student body.
- I Directed and Produced two feature-length Yoga instructional videos for OSU’s CAPS program
- My homework even brought a famous comedian to campus.
I also focused heavily on video production in-and-out of class. Working for both Oregon State Athletics as a camera operator and co-producing a weekly television show on Greek life that resembled MTV cribs, so view my Demo Reels.
After Graduation, I had a brief stint working for TLC’s Little People Big World before I was hired by Netbiz.com, an internet marketing agency, and began working on the sales floor selling Facebook Advertising to businesses. I also worked with my clients to develop effective Facebook Ad Campaigns and branding for their fanpages.
Though I was able to perform for 8 solid months, I was recognized by the corporate office for my social media enthusiasm and know-how and was promoted to the Social Media Department – Netbiz Social where I met my first professional references.
I worked as a New Media Strategist and fulfilled the role of Brand Evangelist for agency-level clients and gained amazing community management experience. I eventually held a leadership position as a New Media Manger.
Most recently I was hired by Bonfire Marketing, where I now provide community management for both B2B and B2C Fortune 500 companies.
In my free time I produce social media tutorials, blogs, and much more.
